Have you ever noticed how extensive the range of babies shoes is nowadays? It appears every shop that stocks clothes for babies now stock a range of shoes also. Not just one or two pairs, but they have lots of colours, styles and options.
I remember when my son was a baby I insisted on putting shoes on his little feet. They served no purposed, other than the look! Rather vain when I reflect. I guess there was one benefit to my son though – at least they kept his socks on, if his shoes stayed on … haha.
Babies, even as they begin to walk, do not need shoes. Toddling is best with bare feet. Little feet are developing and strengthening, bones and muscles are forming, and the babies sensory system is taking in a lot of information through the soles of their feet.
During winter months socks are important to keep babies feet warm. Keeping socks on isn’t easy, particularly as the baby gets older and learns to pull or wiggle them off. And there are times when walking without shoes could be dangerous. As toddlers explore they are likely to walk over uneven surfaces, woodchips, rocky, sandy, even course grasses can be rough on soft baby feet.
The best options will offer a flexible, thin, nonslip sole which protects the foot without restricting movement or hindering foot development. Fabrics should also be soft and lightweight and allow the skin to breathe, and definitely not irritate a toddlers’ sensitive skin. Shoes should also provide adequate room for the toddlers’ foot. Measuring from the longest toe to the front of the shoe and ensuring a nice thumb width in space is ideal.
We’ve developed Tiny Treadz with all of these challenges in mind. Tiny Treadz are so good on cold, hard floors. Keeping feet warm is great but they also provide a non-slip sole and do not easily slip off. When we consider the soft flexible rubber sole, Tiny Treadz are actually a great alternative to a rigid shoe.
Tiny Treadz have a rubber sole and soft cotton sock top. The sole does not restrict foot development or inhibit learning to walk in any way. The flexible, soft rubber moves with the sole of the foot and does not alter the walking motion.
The internet is crowded with an abundance of baby shoe options and information on how to choose the right shoe. Unfortunately lots of the shoes available take into account only the aesthetics, and not the foot development or importance of the sole of the toddler foot for absorbing information. Tiny Treadz have taken all of these things into account. The results are clear when you see a toddler toddle in Tiny Treadz, no more trips, instability or loss of confidence.
